Introducing... Building On Basics.
The "Building on Basics" classroom is inspired by an elementary school setting, adapting fundamental classroom elements to a college-level learning environment.
Here's how:
- The room's feature wall is a stylistic interpretation of the classic coat-hook wall, and conceals a corner of traditional cubbies-allowing students to stow their belongings and engage freely in class.
- The mobile and modular furniture in the room allows students to easily attend lecture, or come together to work in groups.
- Mobile whiteboards throughout the room encourage students to collaborate, create, and learn on a shared surface.
- An entire wall of writeable material at the front of the room encourages similar participation at the classroom level.
- A variety of technology in the room provides opportunity for low-tech brainstorming or high-tech problem solving and sharing.
A solution for every teaching style.
In this flexible space, the instructor can choose to hold a traditional lecture, a lecture with students arranged in groups for discussion, or an entirely activity based class for students in groups. With technology spaced throughout the room, the instructor can also choose to write on the board, use the projector, or use several mobile projectors around the room. The setup can also change to accommodate a change in subject matter. This classroom facilitates various levels of student engagement and technology integration, to suit different instructor preferences.
